I’ve been having this argument on FB all damn day so I thought I would put it here:
I’m not going to change your mind, and you won’t change my mind, even though I get your argument. Having everyone buy health insurance makes health care cheaper for everyone (which is why Michigan forces people to buy auto insurance). Right now heath costs are high partly because people with health insurance have to subsidize the health costs of others who don’t have insurance. How is that fair for me? It’s not, of course. However, I don’t think that the health care bill is what we should have, but since the two parties can never agree, and conservatives think that compromise is a dirty word, we will never find a solution to a problem that IS a problem. Everyone speaks of liberty and freedom, but they don’t realize that their liberty and freedom is infringing on my liberty and freedom. People need to realize that government isn’t evil or bad. We need it. Neither socialism or capitalism alone are good. However, if you study history, you find that the best solution is a mixture of the two. It is what a lot of Europeans have, it is what WE have. Government isn’t bad. It is there to do for people what they can’t do for themselves, or in the case of health insurance, what they apparently won’t do for themselves.
People bitch and moan about the government while LOVING social security, while using welfare, while taking advantage of housing subsidies. What they don’t realize that if they had what the claim to want “The government out of our pocketbooks”, that all that stuff would be gone. This is why change only happens under liberals (and always has). Whether it is a liberal republican like Abraham Lincoln ending slavery, a democrat like FDR creating social security, or Obama launching the health care initiative, conservatives have been against every single major change in this country’s history. It’s fact.
You can say you disagree with the health care bill, and I have some qualms about it as well, but you can’t deny that we have a health care crisis in America. Costs are too high. Older people and the poor can’t afford their care, which raises the costs for everyone, perpetuating a cycle of forever increasing costs. Conservatives response to that is “Well those poor people should get more jobs”. Yeah, thanks. That’s really helpful asshole.
So I’ve been asking this question for a month now, and it looks as if I finally found a consensus. Catholics can’t eat meat during lent, but they can eat fish. So my question was, isn’t Fish meat? Here is the definition of meat:
meat/mēt/
Noun:Synonyms:
- The flesh of an animal as food.
- The flesh of a person’s body: “put some meat on your bones!”.
flesh - food
You know, sometimes the sports media really pisses me off. I know this is probably “irrational fan” talking, but they are totally writing off Michigan State. I have heard a lot of people say we will lose in the second round to Memphis. Ok. First off, it is possible, I admit it. But let’s remember that Memphis plays in Conference USA. Let’s take a gander at who these guys play twice each year: The East Carolina Pirates. The Houston Cougars. Marshall. Rice. Southern Miss. Tulane. Just to name a few. Now not one of those schools could hold a candle to any Big Ten school. They all are terrible compared to any B1G school. Yet Memphis is this “tough roadblock” that MSU has no chance of getting past. Dumbasses.
Let’s take a look at the other 1 seeds and where they play. Syracuse plays in the Big East. They do play some good teams like St Johns, Connecticut and West Virginia. But they also play DePaul and Providence twice a year. Their non-conference schedule wasn’t as good as MSU’s yet they are getting WAY more attention. Put MSU in the Big east and we would have only lost once too. North Carolina plays in the ACC, a basketball conference. But even the ACC was watered down this year with only Duke and Florida State real contenders. At least NC played some people out of conference (MSU one of them).
Then we have Kentucky. They play in the SEC. Not a basketball conference. They play the likes of Missisisppi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Georgia, and Auburn. The toughest teams they play are Vandy and Florida, both of whom had off years. And this team got the #1 overall seed!
Now let’s look at MSU. They played (and lost) to both Duke and NC. Then went on a 15 game winning steak beating Florida State, Gonzaga, and Indiana in that stretch. All of them ranked and ranked high when we played them. We beat Wisconsin 3 times, Wisconsin was ranked in the top 15 all three times when we played them. We beat Ohio State 2 out of 3 times, twice when they were ranked higher than we were (once when they were #3). We beat Michigan once. Now we did have some losses, like to Illinois, that were kind of shockers. But we also lost to Indiana, which isn’t a slacker this year when it comes to BB.
I’m not saying I think we will win it all. I don’t, we have definite weaknesses (scoring for one), but we should at least be in the conversation. Mike and Mike this morning spent 20 minutes talking about March Madness. They didn’t mention MSU once. Everyone has already written MSU off as a lost cause. Which of course is a huge mistake. Remember that guy…what’s his name? Oh yeah, Tom Izzo. You know! The guy who has been to 6 Final Fours in the last 12 years. Has won a national title, and has more Big Ten championships under his belt than I can count. That guy. The guy who is Mr. March himself. These losers will never learn. NEVER count this guy out.

It is going to be sad when The Firm gets cancelled. I love that show. But it was recently moved to Saturdays from Thursdays. No show ever lives when the day it airs changes. Especially in its first season. It is a shame because it is really good. They took a movie that happened 10 years ago, and continued it 10 years later in TV form. They did an excellent job, some of the acting is a bit off, but it is still pretty good.
It will be upsetting that another good NBC show will get cancelled. They do this to me all the time. The did it with The West Wing, they did it with Las Vegas, and now this. Assholes.
Really tired today. Did some shopping. Going to dinner with the little lady tonight, and we’re going to watch a movie.
should be fun, but I wish I wasn’t so tired.
It was a long day. With t3kd going down for four hours, it was also a frustrating day.
Tomorrow I have to fix the database issues once and for all.
I also have to grocery shop fit my mother. Should be fun.
I think I am going to go through today and prune out my Google+ circles. I didn’t start to enjoy Twitter until I stopped adding a lot of people. I need to get addicted to Google+, then I can add more people to my circles. Right now I follow way too many people, and most of them are photographers.
Speaking of Google+, why doesn’t Tumblr allow you to automatically publish your blog posts to google+? Facebook and Twitter are fine, but I want to be able to also share with my + Circles.
Day 7
I’m trying out this new keyboard on Android. Its a little better than Swype.
Although nap wasn’t in its built in dictionary.
Well this is interesting. It also has different keyboard layouts . This one is called azerty. It switches the letters ask around. But I don’t get what switching a few letters around actually does to improve typing.
Ah well. Time for a nap. Happy Sunday!
